This procedure allows you to complete crunch tasks.
No one can be on the system at this time.
Do your normal daily backup. Put those tapes aside.
First, log onto BEGIN. It is very important to be logged on with BEGIN.
At > prompt, enter DV.
At the Use The Printer (Y/N) prompt, enter N.
At the Enter Drive # To Verify prompt, enter 5.
At the Directory Is In Sectors # - # OK? prompt, enter Y.
This tests the disk. If you have any errors, do not go any farther because Crunch will also have errors. Call LMS. If the ****NO CONFLICT ERRORS EXIST**** message displays, you can continue.
At the > prompt, enter DKTEST.
At the Drive Number prompt, enter 5.
At the Test Which Sectors prompt, enter A.
At the Type Of Test prompt, enter R.
At the Log To prompt, enter F and press ENTER twice.
At the # of Passes prompt, enter 1.
At the Map Bad Sectors prompt, enter N. Press the ESC key. The cursor is at the START TEST prompt. Press ENTER to start the test. If you have any errors, do not proceed because the Crunch will also have errors. Call LMS. If it has no errors, you can continue.
Now, you will do a program backup. Place a tape into the drive (not a recent backup tape). At > prompt, enter STAPE. Choose 1 to backup. At the Filespec prompt, enter 5:*:*. Press ENTER until the cursor is under the Exclude column. Enter 5:15:*. Press the ESC key to get the options.

At option, enter B to backup. When this has finished, enter STAPE at the > prompt. Choose number 4 from the menu to verify the tape. It returns to a > prompt when finished.
Put all the tapes aside.
Make sure your main printer is on and online. Any error messages will print.
At the > prompt, enter CRUNCH/P=1 5.
When the Crunch finishes, it returns to the > prompt.
At the > prompt, enter FREE/S/p=1 5.
This prints your free space listing to the main printer and returns to the > prompt. Enter BYE.
