Fix System Freeze Procedures

This procedure allows you to complete daily tasks in Coupons.

  1. Please make a detailed list of what all users were working in and exactly what they were doing.

  2. If LMS is available be prepared to answer the following questions.  Otherwise, please fax the answers to us.

    1. Does the main console respond?

    2. Do the Caps Lock or Num Lock keys on the main console respond?  Do their lights react?

    3. Was it a gradual freeze or an abrupt freeze?

    4. Were there any errors or stops on any of the terminals? (Stops, Exception errors, etc.) NOTE: If yes, please write down the entire message and fax to LMS. Please do not BY (see 3-e) off any tasks if LMS is available.

    5. Was the alt/sysreq debug utility active on the main console?  If so, please write down the information displayed at the bottom of the screen.  (see attached worksheet)

    6. If you have FlipScreens, are they working?  (the screens will flip but the application will not respond)

    7. Do you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply or surge protector?

    8. Did this happen during a storm?

    9. Did the electricity go off?

    10. Were there any additional environmental occurrences? (Construction, New heavy equipment being turned on)

  3. If the main console is responding, please perform the following:

    1. Log into your level 7 password: i.e. BEGIN.

    2. Make sure main printer is on and on-line.

    3. At the prompt, type in *MMI TA/P1 and press Enter.

    4. Please fax the printout to LMS.

    5. Log off all active tasks:  At the prompt, type in  *MMI BY=## (## represents the task number being logged off.  This needs to be  done for each task that a user was logged into.)

    6. Run an Active Call List from Service Dispatch: SD-4-3-1

    7. If you have spooler, you will need to kill spooler: At the prompt, type in  *SIP and press Enter.  In the spooler program check the upper right hand corner for the revision number. If 5.2.99 or less then: press K to kill then K to kill again. if 5.3.00 or greater then: press K to kill then Y for yes and then Esc (the escape key).

    8. At the prompt, type in  *DPTFLUSH/F  and press Enter.

    9. At the prompt, type in  *REBOOT and press Enter.  Answer Y to continue.  If user(s) are not logged off, you will get an error message.  Please refer to step 3 and then try this again. When the system is counting memory during POST (Power On Self Test), turn your CPU off.

    10. Wait at least 1 minute and then turn your CPU back on.

  4. If the main console is not working, wait 5 minutes and turn your CPU off.  Wait one minute and then turn your CPU back on.

  5. When your system is operational, keep all users off the system and run end-of-day processing.

    1. Verify that there are not any mismatches or stops.  If there are mismatches or stops, please stay off the system until you contact LMS.

    2. Verify that the end-of-day reports are in balance.

      1. Verify the accounts receivable reconciliation log balances to the system reports.

      2. Verify that the following reports are in balance: Invoice register MTD net sales = Sales tax register MTD net sales = Sales by branch MTD net sales.

      3. NOTES:

        1. Always inform LMS of system freezes.

        2. Always call or fax to LMS for assistance with these procedures.
