The following prompts are commonly found in several programs on the system:
Enter '^' To Go Back One Field
^ = Go Back 1 Space
In several programs, users have the option enter Shift-6 (^) to move the cursor up and return to a previous field.
This is useful if wrong data is entered in a data entry or file maintenance field, but the record has not been updated yet.
This is also helpful when entering data for an inquiry or report and the user decides to change the results of the report or inquiry.
By returning to a previous field, the originally entered data is erased and the user may then enter new data and run the program.
This option can also be performed for consecutive fields if the user chooses to change several fields.
'/' To Cancel
/ = Cancel
Users also have the option to enter a forward slash (/) to end out of a program and return to the previous menu.
By choosing this option, any data entered into individual fields for inquiries or reports will be voided and the program will terminate.
If the forward slash is used to end out of a data entry or file maintenance program without saving field changes, it is important to use this option before changing screens so that the field changes do not take effect.
The program will then terminate and return the user to the previous menu.
Press 'ESC' To Interrupt And Return To Menu
Often times, users have the option to press the escape key while in the process of running an inquiry or report.
By doing this, the program stops searching for records to display or print and the user is taken back to the previous menu.
Beginning Customer Number, A'll, Or E'nd
Ending Customer Number
In several inquiry and report programs, users can specify different sort options and ranges to be displayed in the results with this field.
In this particular example, the user must enter a specific Customer Number in the first prompt.
In many cases, the data entered into the first field (Beginning Customer Number, A'll, Or E'nd) will default to the second field (Ending Customer Number), in case the user is only searching for one entity.
By pressing enter at the second field, the data is accepted and the cursor moves to the next field.
There is also the option to override this field and enter a different customer number for a range, but the ending number must be greater than the beginning number for numeric inputs.
The range that was entered will apply to the results of the program.
Enter A for all to include all customer numbers in the results of the program.
Enter E to end out of the program and return to the previous menu.
Some programs have several prompts in which a specific alpha or numeric character, or a range of characters can be entered.
Other range prompts will be similar to the format of the customer number prompt above, such as the following:
