Crystal Reports: New Look, New Functionality

In the near future, Nextgen report panels will have a new look as well as increased functionality. For reports that require input parameters, we have added many new features to make Nextgen reporting easier and faster. New features will consist of:
    1. Calendar controls for date range parameters
    2. The number of characters will be limited on field parameters so that you cannot enter values that are larger than valid Nextgen field values
    3. Many reports will be able to run with just a click of the OK button
    4. Only authorized users will be able to run reports
    5. After a report is run once, the last entered parameters will default in next time, even if the report is run months later, and much more!
Below are some examples of what you can expect to see in the next few months.

Discrete values can be added to a Selected Values box and also removed if necessary, simply by clicking on the arrow buttons or double clicking on the value.

Date ranges can be changed by typing in the desired dates or clicking on the drop down arrow to reveal a calendar control. A different year, month, or day can be selected with one click of the mouse.

For range parameters that require beginning and ending values and have the option to select ALL, it will not allow you to leave fields blank. Instead, you will be prompted to enter a value before you continue.

    New Features in Sales Raptor

Sales Raptor continues to grow as a more feature rich and powerful sales force automation tool in the office equipment software industry. With new scheduling and reporting functionality, users are able to easily automate and measure sales activities.

    Activity Generator

This allows sales representatives to automatically create activity for themselves and filter prospects based on lease expiration date, city, state, zip code, county, sales territory, entity group id, number of employees, annual sales, SIC Code, and budget date. Sales reps also have the option to create the activity all for a single scheduled start date/time, or space them out in intervals to happen over several days. The interval is determined by the Activity Type’s duration. For example, a simple phone call may take 15 minutes, but an onsite visit may take 2 hours or more.

    New Reports

Sales Raptor also has two new reports that can be run by a director. These are "Sales Prospects Where Competitor Leases Are Expiring" and "Sales Prospects Where Nextgen Leases Are Expiring". These reports can be printed for a date range and sales territory range for prospects where either a competitor lease is expiring or a Nextgen lease is expiring.

Nextgen Night Auditor is Now a Windows Service

Nextgen Night Auditor also has a new look and new functionality. Built with Microsoft .NET technology, Night Auditor can now be run as a Windows Service. When you start the application program, there is a setting that allows you to start the service. Once this is set, a background task is started on your workstation, and is displayed in the Services panel located in Windows Settings> Control Panel. The service continues to run as a background task even if you log off your system, so that scheduled reports and tasks run at their specified times.

A Windows notification appears when you start and stop the service from the Night Auditor Global Settings panel. The service runs as a separate executable program, which does not shut down when you close the main program panel or log off your computer. This can also be controlled from Settings> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services. In this panel, the Night Auditor service is set to Automatic, which means that if you reboot, the service will automatically start again.

You are also notified that Night Auditor is still running as a background task if you close down the main program panel. The Night Auditor icon shows in the Windows system tray. When you double click on the icon, the main program panel opens again. This is a function that is separate from the Windows service utility.

    Unreceiving and Re-Receiving Purchase Orders

New in the July 2005 update, you can now unreceive as well as effectively re-receive Purchase Order Detail Serial records. This can be found in Work with Purchase Orders> Work with Purchase Order Details> View> Descend Purchase Order Level> Work with Purchase Order Received Lines. Prior to unreceiving however, you must be sure that the serialized line item is not on an open order. If the line item is on an open order, you can go to Work with Orders> Work with Order Details> View> Work with Order Detail Serials (4th Level) and delete the order detail serial record for that particular line item, then continue with your unreceive/re-receive procedure. The ability to unreceive was available before July 2005, but you could not receive the serialized item back into inventory, since the unreceive procedure did not delete the serial record. The PO Detail Serial record can now be unreceived and re-received properly as long as the serial number is not being used anywhere else in the system.

"What you don’t know won’t hurt you". "Everything is running smooth now. Why change?" "It won’t work in my local market". "Are my competitors doing this?" If we could strike these words and mindsets from our businesses, we would all be more successful. Too often, we have opportunities offered and hesitate before taking advantage...and then it is too late. Why would an office equipment dealership not take advantage of No Touch Meter Collection, Contract Freight/Fuel Surcharge, and Tech Raptor? Any cost barriers to entry are mitigated and each one shows an ROI so quickly that it almost seems too good to be true. Yet, it is true. Often we find that decision makers are not aware of these and other capabilities of your software from La Crosse. Join us at ITEX 2006 to see just what other capabilities your software investment can offer you. Check our website www.lacrossesoftware.com and look for a stream of notifications in your inbox in the coming weeks. Sharp dealers can see us at the Sharp National Dealer Meeting later this month.

We want to thank you for letting us be your partner in training development.

    Until next time,
