The Big Event Company Comes to the Spring 2007 La Crosse Customer Conference

Spring 2007 La Crosse Customer Conference Many people were excited and ready to go for this year's spring customer conference in La Crosse. We invited The Big Event Company to provide the entertainment portion of the 4-day conference, just to mix things up a bit and keep it interesting. The Waterfront Restaurant in La Crosse served an outstanding dinner before the casino games started. Once the action begin, everyone enjoyed themselves playing Vegas-style craps, poker, black jack, and roulette.

Spring 2007 La Crosse Customer Conference The education tracks proved to be very informative and beneficial, even to the point that we had trouble fitting all the information into 2 hour sessions. The Nextgen Rev It Up session was especially well received by the group as they discussed all the new features coming up in the March 2007 update. In fact, there were more than a few comments that even two 4-hour sessions of Rev It Up were not enough! Now, that sounds like a dedicated group to me. With the other sessions for Contract Management, Inventory/PO Management, Orders/ Telesales/ E-commerce, GL/Financial Management, SQL Server Tips/Maintenance, Crystal Report Writing, and Service Management, the attendees had plenty of things to discuss and learn about.

Spring 2007 La Crosse Customer Conference

We sincerely thank all of those who attended for taking the time out of your busy schedules to participate in the education sessions and demos. We will continue to do our best to continue providing quality training to you and your staff. Thanks to those who completed their customer surveys and gave us some very nice comments and suggestions. We hope to see you at our next customer conference in October 2007!

"We really enjoyed the conference and all had a great week. There was time for networking with other Nextgen users, which was great and very beneficial, and, as usual, the LMS staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We really appreciated that John, Tom and the other La Crosse staff were willing to spend time with us to better understand our business and how Nextgen could be enhanced to assist with addressing our business needs."

John Brostrom Speaks at ITEX 2007

This year at ITEX in Las Vegas, John Brostrom was co-presenter at the Power Hour session titled "Back Office Technology to Support Business Growth." Moderated by Darrel Amy, President of Dealer Marketing Systems, this meeting room was filled with copier dealership personnel and people in the industry wanting to know more about the importance of software systems and technology for the future success of office equipment companies, and document solutions/copier dealerships.

Among the various topics covered, it was mentioned by all the presenters that we are currently in an age where dealers cannot afford to fall behind in technology. Whether they are processing orders, purchase orders, invoicing, or handling transactions of any kind, dealers must focus on securing a strong and reliable back office system for efficiently doing business, so that they can protect their hard-earned revenue and profits.

In addition to the busy show schedule, Imaging Network also hosted an awards dinner where attendees enjoyed a top notch meal and some popular Vegas-style entertainment. Posing as music legends Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Frank Sinatra, the "Rat Pack" performed several classic musical numbers on Thursday evening.

Aside from the power hour sessions and after hours entertainment, the show floor at the Las Vegas Convention Center was extremely busy as usual during the show hours. Watching the transformation from a huge number of large boxes and crates into a polished and orderly collection of trade show booths is always a fascinating thing to see. Depending on how large and elaborate some booths are, there are work crews brought in before the show to build and set up sometimes massive structures. The whole transformation happens in about 24 hours, and somehow they manage to hide any indication that all of it was once a chaotic mess. Once the show gets underway, it is all over in 2 days, and hopefully, the exhibitors leave with a good feeling that their trip to Las Vegas was worthwhile.

La Crosse Management Systems was definitely one of those exhibitors that left with a good feeling of success. Hope to see you next year at ITEX 2008 for an even bigger and better show!

User Tips

Known Issues with Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7

As more and more users switch over to the newly released Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, a few issues have been discovered that we want to let you know about. Please be aware that we do not recommend running Nextgen on the Vista operating system. Our current hardware specifications indicate Windows XP as the supported Microsoft operating system. The following issues are known to be related to Windows Vista.
  • Printing Crystal Reports: If you are having trouble printing Crystal Reports, there is a merge module installation on our FTP site that will rectify this issue. However, you must uninstall and reinstall Crystal Reports Runtime Distribution. For more information, please inquire at support@lacrossesoftware.com. This is ONLY for Windows Vista workstations that are having trouble printing Crystal Reports.
  • FTP in Internet Explorer 7: Microsoft has just recently released Internet Explorer 7. With the new look and feel of this browser, you may have some problems with accessing the La Crosse FTP site. If you have entered a specific user name and password in the FTP address and it shows just the root FTP folder contents, you can view and access the specific user contents by selecting Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer from the Page menu. Then, you will be able to download your selected files.
  • Customizing Panel Colors with Windows Vista: If you are beginning to use a PC with Windows Vista as the operating system, and you notice that some Nextgen panels are dark or even black, you can perform the following procedure:
    1. Right click on your desktop and select Personalize.
    2. Click on the first option Windows Color and Appearance.
    3. In the Appearance dialog, click on the Advanced button.
    4. Begin testing by changing the color of panels, panel attributes, and text to suit your preferences.
  • Running Winhelp (.hlp) files on Windows Vista: The Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) is no longer included with Windows operating systems starting with Windows Vista. Nextgen uses .hlp files in some cases. If you experience any problems with .hlp files while using Nextgen on Windows Vista, you can download and install WinHlp32.exe from Microsoft's website: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=82148. Otherwise, if you need to view Nextgen help topics, it is recommended that you access them from the main Nextgen help application, which is developed in HTML, and accessed from the Nextgen menu under Help > Contents and Index. Topics are easily accessed by topic title in the Index tab, or by keyword search in the Search tab.
